Music Education, Composition and Performance Projects
Richard Clarke
I am Richard Clarke. I am a musician, composer and music educator based in Colorado, USA. I moved here to Colorado in 2014 from the United Kingdom. I studied music and music education at college, gaining my Bachelors from the University of Huddersfield, Masters from the Royal Northern College of Music and Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Bristol. Since moving to Colorado, I have taught music at STEM School Highlands Ranch, Bennett School District and Littleton Public Schools. I am currently an Online Music Teacher for Colorado Springs District 11's Spark Online Academy.
I play alto saxophone, piano, guitar and sing. I compose instrumental music and songs and arrange a lot of other people's music for my students. I use Sibelius and Ableton Live applications for composing and arranging music. My passion is for teaching real world music skills to students, informed by my classroom teaching experience of problem based learning, as well as working with professional musicians and integrating music technology into my teaching practice.
I am a supporter of music programs that foster collaboration, problem solving and real creativity skills in their students. I am designing a music curriculum based on music fundamentals that all jazz musicians learn. I am also writing a musical to teach jazz concepts and conventions to a younger audience.
I will soon be beginning a DA in Jazz Studies at the University of Northern Colorado, focusing on jazz composition, saxophone and music education.
